WonderCon 2011 - day 3...

Woke up, blah blah blah BART, got off at Powell. I was walking towards the Moscone Center South when I noticed a line at a booth which had been set up across the street advertising for "Thor" in the guise of joining S.H.I.E.L.D.. I got in line, filled out a quick app, and before long I had my own S.H.I.E.L.D. ID card. I then continued to the con, but as I had been leisurely getting there it was already open. I walked the dealer's hall for what seemed like miles (my aching feet can attest to this). At one point I went to the Marvel booth and got a few Thor posters. At another booth they were giving away free sci-fi & fantasy books, and this time I actually found one I wanted: Jennifer Government by Max Barry. Before too long I met up with my WonderCon family at the Esplanade ballroom for the following panels: Terra Nova, Thundercats, Human Target, V, and finally a showing of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. That ended the con, so I took BART back to the Millbrae Caltrain, and finally satisfied my hunger at Peter's Cafe with half a Monte Cristo (saving the other half for later). From there I took Caltrain home, where I found the light was on in my room. This is weird, because I'm pretty sure I had turned it off before leaving.

Anyway, one other thing... I called work to find out what my schedule was for the week and found that my hours were the same as last week... in other words, they've been cut horribly. So I plan on looking for something new (or additional) on my days off.

Didn't take many pics today, but here's a lot from the last two days...Collapse )

WonderCon 2011 - day 2...

Woke up early, and just like yesterday I hadn't slept well. Got to the con and after a few minutes of waiting in line they let us in. I was able to get a "Sucker Punch" poster, and I plan to replace the "Kick-Ass" one with it when I get back home. Soon after that I met Cindy Morgan (Lora/Yori from the original Tron) and chatted with her, not to mention was able to get a pic of the two of us. My WonderCon family and I waited in line for a long time outside the Esplanade room, but it was worth it when we got seats way up front. Before the panels started I met up with Beth, J.C., Chris, and his fiancée... they were all in costume (I got pics!). The panels were about to start, so I made my way back to the Esplanade room. First up was "Cowboys & Aliens", where director Jon Favreau showed us about 9 minutes of footage from the movie. It looks like it's going to be one hell of a fun film! After that came panels for "Three Musketeers", "Hanna", and "Priest"... all of which look pretty good. I left and went to check out the Spider-Man video game panel (and was able to recharge my phone a bit), where I learned more about Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time. I am quite psyched for Edge of Time... I love time travel, especially the butterfly effect type. After that I wandered the dealer's hall and finally met a Facebook friend I had found through MC Frontalot, and we got a pic together... she is such a cool woman. I then met up with the family, and we had dinner at Chevy's. From there we went back to their hotel room and chatted while we watched "Transformers", then I took off for San Bruno.

WonderCon 2011 - day 1...

Started the day off early after not getting much sleep. Got to the San Bruno BART station and met Carl there, whereupon we rode to the city. I got off at Powell Street and soon found myself at the Moscone Center South. I waited in an already long line until they let us in to get our badges, then met my WonderCon family (who had snagged spots almost first in line). We took the usual pics, then we were let in.

We went straight for the DC booth, got some swag, and generally walked the floor, sometimes splitting up for awhile. I went to the HBO booth at one point where they took my pic in the Game of Thrones throne which I then was able to email to myself from their iPads:

After that, we got some overpriced con pizza and soda, and did some more floor walking. At one point I got to meet the creators of Least I Could Do (and took a pic of them), then headed to the Esplanade ballroom (where they were playing Jonathan Coulton songs!) for panels: Falling Skies, Nikita, then "Green Lantern". The footage they showed for "Green Lantern" got me very excited... the movie looks absolutely awesome. Ryan Reynolds was hilarious as he discussed his involvement with the film, and afterward I got a free Green Lantern t-shirt. I stayed and watched the entirety of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights while the family went to try and watch a preview of "Priest". When that was over I didn't feel like leaving just yet, so I stayed for a Star Wars fan film panel that was entertaining. I then left the con, called the family, and hung out with them for awhile at their hotel room before heading back to San Bruno to write this post and get some sleep.

Here are some pics... more pics are forthcoming as soon as I get home and are able to get them on here...Collapse )
Yesterday I got off of work, went home, and proceeded to wait for the gang to get there. Before too long I was joined by davebydesignDave, moonwhispersBrian, angry_wolfCarl, and spideyjKanane. We left my house and went to the Micro Center in Santa Clara, got our tickets for the IMAX showing of "Sucker Punch", then had dinner at Yo-Yo Sushi. As much as I love Tenka, this place has them beat by a light year. With plenty of time to spare we walked to the AMC Mercado and, after concessing, got our seats for the movie...

The rest of the group may not agree with my assessment, but "Sucker Punch" was fucking awesome. No, it won't win any Academy Awards, but that's not what I expected from this movie... after all, I recently re-watched "300" and "Watchmen", so I know exactly what to expect from a Zack Snyder film... which is basically eye & ear candy and a fun time. I will be seeing it again in the theaters, but if not I'll definitely be owning it on DVD when it's available.

Anyway, after the movie we regrouped at Dave's for great conversation. Finally I got home and, after downloading most of the soundtrack for "Sucker Punch", slept. This morning I went to work, found out that my hours this week were cut very badly (even with WonderCon this weekend) and that upset me a bit. I think I need to find additional/new employment ASAP. After work I got home and have been pretty much websurfing/watching t.v. since (and listening to the SP soundtrack of course).
